Firmware for the Xteink X4, X3 and other ESP32 e-ink readers that opens Korean EPUB and TXT files out of the box. Install it from your browser in a few minutes.

Every screen below is the real firmware running in an emulator.
Korean, built in
Pretendard is built in, so Korean EPUB and TXT files read with no setup. You can switch to a font such as KoPub Batang from the SD card.
Library
Shows the books on the SD card in their folders, and jumps back to what you read last.
Reader menu
Contents, bookmarks, night mode and dictionary lookup while you read.
Detailed settings
Display, reading, buttons and sleep screen, all on the device.
Wireless transfer
Upload and download books from a browser on the same Wi-Fi, or through the device's own hotspot.
Your own fonts
Convert a TTF or OTF to .epdfont, put it on the SD card and pick it.
Captured in the x4prosim emulator (X3, 528×792). On the X4 the same screens are laid out for 800×480. The book on screen is Demian in a public-domain Korean translation from Wikisource, made into an EPUB by EPUBGUIDE.NET (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0). The text is set in KoPub Batang.
Install in three steps

Connect USB
Use a USB-C cable for the X4, or the magnetic cable that came with the X3.

Run the web flasher
In Chrome or Edge, pick your device and press install.

Done
The device restarts when it's done. If it stays blank, press Reset and hold the power button for a second.

Turns the X4 into a word processor for a Bluetooth keyboard; the menu screen follows the DOS-era 아래아한글 2.0.
- •Boots into an empty document: menu bar (F10), status line, Dubeolsik Korean input, F9 Hanja
- •Character shape (bold, italic, underline, size) and paragraph shape, page numbers, find and replace
- •Saves as .hwp (HWP 3.0 format), Korean titles, an open box, Wi-Fi backup

This firmware is a fork of the open-source CrossPoint Reader (crosspointreader.com) with Korean text rendering, Korean menus and Korean fonts added. New device support and most features come from the upstream project.
